Julia loves teaching and has taught all ages, from amateurs to pros to celebrities. She brings her deep understanding of vocal science, performance technique and years of teaching experience to each session and has the ability to tune into each student’s unique gifts and abilities. She believes that vocal expression is a powerful tool of self discovery and has been running her own music studio in Malibu for over 20 years. She was named Best Music Educator at the Malibu Music Awards. Julia provides an intimate, safe and liberating environment to inspire personal artistic development for people of all ages, types and levels.
Teaching Philosophy
“Each of us is our own instrument. Each with a different level of experience and a different physiological makeup. I am a teacher who is intuitive and observant and, because of my knowledge of the body and my experience as a singer myself, am able to understand what is going on that might be inhibiting the free flow of sound. I tailor each lesson to the individual singer.
Beyond the technical, there is the artistic. Learning to tell a story with a song is critical and can make the difference between a good singer and an exceptional singer. I bring my years of experience as an actor and director to the studio setting.”

Julia Holland interlaces her education and background in music with her years of personal experience. When I first started training with Julia I knew I had no vocal control and was frustrated but didn’t know how to fix it. She took careful care of not only noticing which areas I needed work but also noticing which areas needed work mentally and fighting the preconceived notions and blocks I was creating for myself in my own mind. She has given me the tools and the confidence to grow into my own. Now people say “you truly have your own unique sound” In my last studio session my producer pulled me aside and said “I have to let you know, in all the people I’ve worked with I’ve never seen someone improve so drastically, so fast”. I am forever grateful for the impact she has had on both my voice, and my life.
Julia has become such an important person in the lives of our girls, she’s so much more than ‘just’ the most amazing vocal teacher and artist. Julia has a special talent to support young children in truly finding their voices and helping them get to know who they really are. The last year has been tough for all of us, and our weekly zoom sessions have been a highlight in an otherwise confusing and isolated time.
At 65 it was a somewhat crazy idea to start taking piano lessons, but Julia is making me believe that it isn’t really that crazy at all. She is so patient and encouraging and am I having a great time and LEARNING! Coming in at the tail end of her lessons with kids is a joy to listen to. They are so lucky to have such a terrific teacher.

Julia has been an inspiring music teacher for my children for many years, she has mentored my son Daniel Paige and has given him confidence and a huge understanding about music and singing. He has been able to take his voice to another level since working with Julia over the years. Daniel is a performing artist today and talented songwriter. Julia is kind and loving and has an incredible gift in bringing out the most in her students through her own knowledge and talent.
